What does your first 20 minutes of class look like?

I am rethinking my morning routine. Currently doing: backpacks away, morning work, announcements, then morning meeting. But it takes 25 minutes and I lose instructional time. What does your first 20 minutes look like? Looking for ideas that are efficient AND build community.

Science of Reading vs. Balanced Literacy -- where do you land?

Our school is shifting to structured literacy and some teachers are struggling with letting go of the balanced literacy approach. I am not here to fight about it -- I genuinely want to hear how people are navigating this transition in their buildings. What is working? What is hard?

How do you handle the emotional weight of this job?

Honest question. I love my kids. I love teaching. But some days the weight of what they carry walks into my classroom and sits on my chest. How do you take care of yourselves? What actually works?

Best data meeting protocol you have ever used?

Trying to revamp our grade-level data meetings. We have been using the same protocol for 3 years and it is stale. Teachers zone out. What protocol do you use that actually leads to changed instruction?

DC vs. PG County vs. NoVA -- what is different about teaching in each?

I have only taught in DC but I am curious about PG and Northern Virginia. Different challenges? Different cultures? Better/worse support? No judgment -- just genuinely curious about what it is like across the DMV.
